A SUMMER OF SUCCESS FOR REPTON SWIMMING

Reptonians from all year groups have been taking to the pool this summer to compete in a vast array of national and international competitions.

The beginning of the summer break welcomed the annual British Summer Championships, this year with several Reptonians in attendance. A great show was put on by all, with the Repton Swimming squad leaving the event with seven Gold Medals, four Silver Medals, nine Bronze Medals and 40 Personal Bests in hand. A special mention goes to Laurie Devine for securing position as the British National Champion for the 50m Freestyle event.

Across August we saw a large number of Repton pupils also competing at a national level. Idena Grimes walked away from the Swim Wales National Summer Meet with multiple Personal Bests, a Bronze Medal and a Gold Medal. The Swim England National Summer Meet in Sheffield was a hub of success for Reptonians, with 10 medals being won across the five-day event. Finally, Eva Mathias, Poppy Mathias and Grace Conroy attended the Irish Youth & Senior Summer Nationals, with Grace successfully obtaining both a Bronze and Gold Medal.

Most recently, pupils Laurie Devine, Hannah Bowley and Holly Marshall headed to Trinidad and Tobgao to compete in the Commonwealth Youth Games, representing Scotland, England and Wales respectively. The girls performed extremely strongly, with all three of them reaching the finals in their best events. Laurie won herself a Silver Medal in the Mixed 4 x 100m Medley Relay before finishing 4th place in the Individual 50m Freestyle. Hannah finished in 4th place in the 200m breaststroke, and Holly secured herself a Bronze Medal in the 400m Individual Relay. Competing at such a high level is a fantastic achievement, and the girls represented both themselves and the School flawlessly.

Repton’s performance swimming programme continues to go from strength to strength under the leadership of Director of Swimming Ash Morris, with growing numbers of pupils being selected for national teams. Repton is now a nationally-ranked performance swim centre and combined with a world-class education we look forward to seeing what the 2023-24 academic year brings for the pupils.
