DIRECTOR OF CRICKET, CHRIS READ, JOINS THE YOUNG ENGLAND LIONS COACHING TEAM FOR THEIR UAE AND AUSTRALIAN TOURS THIS WINTER.

Repton’s Director of Cricket, Chris Read, has been announced as the Assistant Coach for the Young England Lions (England U19s) on their tours of UAE and Australia this winter.

He will work alongside Former England all-rounder, Mike Yardy, who takes up the new position of Head Coach. Read will travel with the team to the UAE in November and then end the tour in Australia at the start of the new year. He will return to coaching cricket at Repton in late February.

Chris started his role with the team earlier this month, during their pre-tour training at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

Read said: “It is a privilege to be part of a programme that supports the development of young players in cricket. I am honoured to be able to further enhance the skills of talented athletes, not just at Repton, but with the ECB on an international stage. I look forward to sharing my experiences with Repton pupils on my return”.

The former England cricketer and Nottinghamshire CCC Captain joined Repton’s coaching team in 2019 after retiring from the professional game in 2017. He has since directed all aspects of the School’s cricket programme at both Repton and Repton Prep.

In the interim, Ben Hutchinson (Derbyshire CCC Pathway and Academy Coach) and Alex Hughes (retired Derbyshire CCC player) have been employed to run all coaching sessions for our young cricketers over the winter season. Ben brings a wealth of experience from his time playing and coaching cricket in both Australia and England, whilst Alex has had a long and successful career playing over 250 first-class games for DCCC.
