These unique programmes combine academic study with practical work experience, providing young adults with a dynamic and financially secure alternative to traditional university routes. Inspiring Industry Insights
This term, Repton’s Sixth Form pupils specialising in Physics, Design Technology, and Business attended a remarkable careers talk hosted by Jakob, an Old Reptonian and McLaren team member. Jakob’s presentation highlighted the thrills of Formula 1 and demonstrated how perseverance, creativity, and collaboration drive success in STEM and business fields. Pupils held Lewis Hamilton’s steering wheel and learned about the intricate engineering behind motorsport, gaining a real-world perspective on the vast opportunities available to them.
Repton’s Assistant Head (Academic) Tom Howell commented: “Jakob’s story encouraged pupils to consider diverse career pathways, including degree apprenticeships, which align perfectly with Repton’s mission to provide pupils with an education that prepares them for the future. Events like this really showcase the strength of the Old Reptonian network and the value it brings to current pupils.”
At a Rolls-Royce ‘Meet the Apprentices’ event held at Repton in November, Sixth Formers gained further career insights, this time into the world of aerospace and nuclear engineering apprenticeships. Meeting current apprentices gave pupils a first-hand view of the opportunities and benefits these schemes offer, reinforcing the value of hands-on learning combined with academic progression.
Success Stories at Repton
Our commitment to supporting pupils’ ambitions shines through the success of our current Upper Sixth pupils. Ben H secured a coveted place on Deloitte’s Audit and Assurance Brightstart Apprenticeship Pathway, based in Edinburgh. Starting in September 2025, Ben will gain real-world experience while achieving degree-level qualifications.
Similarly, Joe K accepted an offer to join KPMG’s degree apprenticeship programme. Joe expressed his gratitude for Repton’s support, saying:
“Before I joined Repton last year, I did not even know that these opportunities existed. The teachers here exposed me to these roles and supported me throughout my applications and interviews. Without Repton, I think I would still be applying to university, which does not suit me. I am extremely grateful to be in such a supportive and ambitious environment.”
Support for Degree Apprenticeships
Repton School provides support to pupils exploring and applying for degree apprenticeships. From initial discussions to the final stages of securing a position, our Careers and Higher Education team guides every pupil through the process which includes:
- 1-to-1 Meetings: Pupils access unlimited one-to-one sessions where we tailor degree apprenticeship pathways to their academic strengths, target grades, and personal passions.
- Research and Exploration: We assign bespoke research tasks to help pupils identify and understand potential apprenticeship opportunities in line with their interests and career aspirations.
- Industry Specialist Talks: In-person and virtual talks from professionals in various fields give pupils invaluable insights into specific industries and roles.
- Application Support: Continuous support to help pupils navigate application forms, tackle challenging questions, and present their best selves to potential employers.
- Interview Preparation: We equip pupils with expert advice and practice sessions to build confidence and refine their interview techniques.
