ROLLS-ROYCE GROUP PRESIDENT INSPIRES REPTONIANS WITH INSIGHTS INTO AEROSPACE, NUCLEAR POWER AND FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Repton School was privileged to host Chris Cholerton, Group President at Rolls-Royce, for an inspiring talk that captivated pupils studying business and the sciences. The event brought together GCSE, CTEC, and A Level pupils to hear from one of the leading figures in aerospace engineering and nuclear power.

Chris Cholerton, who oversees Rolls-Royce’s global nuclear operations, including Rolls-Royce Submarines, and serves as the CEO of Rolls-Royce SMR (Small Modular Reactors), shared fascinating insights into the world of engineering, innovation, and business strategy. His talk spanned a range of topics, from the technical excellence driving cutting-edge advancements in aerospace and nuclear technology to the evolving nature of today’s workplace.

Pupils were particularly engaged by his reflections on how businesses approach diversification and risk management, with a focus on maximising efficiency and profitability. But perhaps most valuable was his advice for thriving in a fast-paced, ever-changing professional landscape: Chris underscored the importance of maintaining a growth mindset, being adaptable, and seizing new opportunities with confidence.

There was also discussion of career pathways, particularly the potential offered by degree apprenticeships. Chris spoke passionately about how these programs provide a unique blend of practical experience and academic learning, opening exciting doors for young professionals entering fields like engineering, technology, and business.

The talk concluded with a Q&A session, during which Reptonians posed thoughtful questions, reflecting their engagement with the subject matter. Chris’ talk left a lasting impression, inspiring many of Repton’s future leaders to explore careers in STEM and business with enthusiasm.

Dr Stuart Ingleston-Orme, Head of Science at Repton, said, "We are immensely grateful to Chris for sharing his time and expertise with our pupils. The insights he provided were not only informative but truly inspiring, showing our pupils the exciting possibilities that await them in industries at the forefront of innovation."

This event is a prime example of Repton School’s commitment to offering pupils real-world learning experiences and access to industry leaders. We look forward to continuing to provide our pupils with opportunities that will shape their futures and open up career pathways in some of the world’s most dynamic sectors.
