THE ROBERT KIRKLAND DESIGN CENTRE: A NEW ERA FOR REPTON SCHOOL'S DESIGN TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Repton School is proud to announce the official opening of its newly refurbished Design Technology department, now renamed The Robert Kirkland Design Centre, after the distinguished Old Reptonian and former School Governor.
This transformation marks a milestone in Repton’s commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and engineering excellence. Pupils can now enjoy a modern, light and airy space, with brand new flooring, work benches, storage facilities and decorative effects – an ideal environment in which to develop the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and creative edge needed for designing and making functional products.
This year, Repton is celebrating the success of Eva L (L6A) and Greg Morris (L6N), who have been confirmed as Arkwright Scholars. The Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is the most esteemed scholarship of its kind in the UK, awarded to young people with the potential to become future leaders in engineering and design.
Repton’s Head of Design and Technology, Lucy Politowski, expressed her pride in the department’s Arkwright Scholars. "We are proud to have such talented pupils representing Repton in these innovative disciplines. The refurbished centre provides the inspiration needed to fully explore their potential during their Sixth Form career" she said.
The refurbished Robert Kirkland Design Centre offers facilities that encourage a culture of innovation and creativity. The contemporary space features advanced equipment and technologies that seamlessly integrate practical skills, materials processing, and computer-aided design (CAD). This dynamic environment is already sparking enthusiasm among pupils, as Lucy notes: "Pupils have responded with enthusiasm and creativity to the new refurbishment, inspiring excellence in their future design aspirations."
